PodBike on Pause
November went by really quickly. Back in September I was on the road meeting people and making plans. Guess I could have seen this coming, but I didn't. But maybe a step back first.
I had plans for taking my podcasting "on the road". I am beginning a second podcast along with my New Normal but this time in German language. I had decided that I wanted to get out during this new phase for me and meet people, get to know more about where I have lived for over 30 years. I wanted to do all this on my new bike. I call it my PodBike.
When I knew I was going to have more free time over the last summer I very quickly told my wife that I would buy a new bike and travel the country and she thought that was a great idea! Lucky me. So, in August I got the new bike, an e-bike made for long distance travel. I grabbed some of my audio equipment and added a few pieces, threw them in a bag and hit the road. See, there is something many will not know about me; I came to Europe in 1987 with a few hundred dollars and a bicycle. I had finished school back in the US and my then girlfriend was still in school here, so I decided to come over, get to know the neighborhood, learn a little German and see if I like it. Obviously, I did or do like it. I cycled for many months around the country and even into the Swiss Alps, so biking was nothing new to me nor my now wife.
So, as I began planning my New Normal the bike idea was obvious, and I had been podcasting for many years already, but I wanted to spend a little more time getting to know more people here and learn of their experiences all while I would sit down and interview them. Well, that worked for 4 interviews in September and October. I am still working the new podcast format and will post soon so stay tuned. However, with the situation here getting harder to get out and meet people I have had to take my podcast back to Zoom and remote. Really wasn't the plan and it is not as exciting for me, but it is what it needs to be.
I am on the bike here every week exploring the local hills staying safe and waiting for the Spring where maybe, just maybe I can get out to those most interesting folk and bring the PodBike with me. I do hope you are all well, safe and getting through the challenging times ok.
