What a year 2020 has been
I am not going to go into the craziness of the times neither politically, socially nor virally but just wanted to share a sigh of relief; the year is almost over.
As you know, my world got flipped on its head right at the height of the pandemic. Well, we thought then in June we were at the height, oh well. Beginning in September I was a “free man” whatever that might sound like to others, maybe I should apologise here? Anyway, the last few months have been, well, interesting.
Initially I was full of ideas and places I wanted to go and people to talk to but that quickly morphed into most everyone’s reality of stay-at-home life. Sure, I still get out here locally a lot for bike rides or the weekly hike in the hills here but I had other ideas. I began consulting with a tech startup in October which provided a welcome focal point. Working with them has been a highlight this fall/winter as most other plans evaporated. I hope that continues for some time as there is so much potential.
Every year when December approaches I come indoors and begin a winter project. Last December I planned for the “New Normal” as I designed a video studio in my home. Little did I know what New Normal might actually mean, and not just for me! So, the studio with all the gear where it should be was a huge step forward for me and got a lot of use in 2020. Well, now another December is here and I have 2 projects; get my website in order and remodel the studio.
You may have noticed that the website has changed a lot over the last few weeks. First, this blog Tom Sawyer’s Travels was migrated here from its Blogger location. It was combined with a RaginCajuns site I had used for a few years so now all my blogging since 2004 is in one location. I also made the decision of putting this blog on my business site as a point. I feel if someone is interesting in working with me they should also have a chance to learn more about me. So, I make it easy and just put everything in one place. I have a few final pieces to get straightened out but I feel this first December project has been quite successful. Now I can turn off some of those older domains and stop paying for those services.
Yeah, time to remodel the studio. One year later and I have new gear (no surprise there) and new needs. I will share more on that in an upcoming post here. Visually for the viewer it will not change much but the audio chain is very different now and the production stack I work with will save me time in post-production which has been my achilles heal.
I hope your 2020 ends as well as it can. Stay safe, stay healthy and I hope to share more exciting steps in my New Normal with you in 2021!
Yours, Andrew
