Mobile Office Day - Lucerne

On the road again…well, I guess I could say that often however not so much recently. That's a good thing. I do need to get out sometimes I am recognising. I notice that when I travel I have other things on my mind than when I am at home. Home is great and having all the time to spend with the family is something I missed a lot of. So, all this remote working, teleconferences, video calls and the like are fine with me. Just sometimes I need a change of scenery.P1060850So today I have headed down to Lucerne for the day. Originally I had a meeting here arranged which cancelled at the last minute. Ticket for the train had been bought and the family already prepared for my absence (just one night) I decided to keep to the plan. The train can be really good for thinking. It is just over 4 hours to get to Lucerne and that means lots of trees and hills and just quiet time to think. I had been really busy working on a very tough subject which had to be just right or it would fail and with that done yesterday I was totally ready for a rebooting.I found a coffee shop and parked myself with a large latte and continued where I left off on the train. I came up with a new idea for something I had been thinking on and off of for some time now. I got some points noted in Evernote and dropped a mail with a research scientist from my company for some feedback. I know of the Google idea of the 20% and now even Apple is toying with the same, you get to take a portion of your time to focus on what interests you and not just the task the company has planned for you. I don't think I'll get away with 20% but a day every so often might be a good idea. But while I was here I also got to see something different, something to jog my mind some different air to pass through my lungs. Mobile office day. Was a nice day too. Now off to friends for the night. That will be the cherry on the cake.
