New challenges, old staples
The next three weeks will be challenging. The Boyz have a 3 week practical training in a business they each chose. Actually the entire 8th grade, 107 of them, are out in the business world for the next few weeks. It's like starting a new job; what's going to happen? Who will I be working with? Will I enjoy/get along with those I am working with? All these questions are being asked by the 14 year olds here this weekend. Not much good sleep happening along the way. Me? I 'm fine but the others are... "challenged".Funny when I think back a few years when I was that age, I also started my first job. I remember some of the same fears (although I tried to work a year earlier but was fired on day 2 as I was too young and apparently misinformed my employer, what a start in the working world). So, here they go but into a limited 3 week experience. Actually, it really doesn't matter if it is 3 weeks or 3 years, the hardest days are the first few. So, that is what we are headed tomorrow.I have really enjoyed the weekend with the two of them. Well, Tim was off at training camp for the weekend and Chris in Portugal for a "girls weekend away", I took the chance to just enjoy the time and "smell the roses" as a wise person once suggested to me. It was a lot of talk and exchanging of feelings but I hope it helped. Guess we will see in a few days. What now had driven me to write this was a familiar smell. It took me back to the basics and made me think of what I am really thankful of: my family, heritage.I started the beans on Saturday with a soak, then turned up the heat today and now at 9pm they are really crawling out of the pot. The smell they are emitting just took me to that place, not sure where it is but it made me think of what I am really thankful of. Great people in my family, my kids are wonderful young men and the rest have developed just great. The beans will be enjoyed on Monday as tradition states and the Boyz will have new experiences which will enrich us all. Guess that is what life is supposed to all be about....
