Mallorca, Day 7
Thursday, March 22Today was a really nice day for biking. I rode one of the standard courses as well, the Orient. There are many interesting names here and today the course went into the hills over two climbs and through the town of Orient.(street sign to Orient)
It took about 75 minutes to get past the flats and into the hills but once there it really took off. The landscape today once leaving the flats was really different as well as the temps. Although the climb only went up to 560 meters the air was much cooler behind the first hills. The first climb was about 6km long with an average pitch of just under 6% and that was enough for me today.(Honor Pass)
There were a lot of bikes out there too. Clubs with 15-20 riders as well as plenty of groups with 10-15 underway. It felt like being part of an organized tour although the riders were headed in many different directions.(View around Orient)
Coming down from the hills was a great roll of about 10 kilometers almost without any pedaling. After the work to get up there it was really nice. Lunch again was a standing affair on the side of the Cami where I caught a few of these picture. These Cami cut all through the island here and most are in really great condition too. It takes a bit of experience I guess to know which ones takes you where but I often just decide when at crossing depending on how I feel and which way the wind is blowing.(Lunch break on the Cami)
So, now half way into my second series and I feel pretty good. The weather has improved and looks good for the final days as well. I have two more epic tours planned still. I am not yet sure which one I will ride tomorrow but it will be cool. They both have quite some hills but have names like 'Galilea' and 'Valldemossa', are longer and higher as well. This is the final run and I am feeling pretty ready for it.Daily stats: 4h30m, 102km, 148 avg HR, temp 20C, 970m climbing, 3440 calories spent, PE medium-hardCamp Sub-TTL 26h25m, 563km, 3990m, 18090cal
