Mallorca, Day 6 - 2nd phase begins
Wednesday, 21 MarchAfter the needed day off I am back on the road. My hope for these next 4 days is to continue the pace I was building up during the first four. Before I came, my plan had 24 hours of training across the 8 days and with 17 already during the first half, I guess that will be possible. Today began with looking out the window to see if the weather had passed. The wind has died down and that is great, the skies are still grey and the threat of rain still around. Talk at the breakfast table has many planning on not venturing too far away today in case the rains do come. That will be my plan also.My legs are very heavy this morning. They feel all those hours on the bike. The rest day was good for sure but I guess the first hour today will be pretty rough. Now I need to get suited up and grab the bike.(pic of windmill)
It's time to ride!Done. it turned out to be a really nice day for biking. The winds had died down as seen here in the harbor but also across the flats of the inlands as well. This time I headed south-east across towards Campos. Along the roads of the southern coast I found it to be really quiet. There really is not much there. Only a few towns which seem more like tourist towns with villas or fincas and condos along the coast. The roads were empty, also of bikers which is unusual on this island. Lunch was in Sa Rapita and there were only empty apartments there. None of the smaller shops were opened yet. Still the off season there.(pic of Campos church)
So, almost 4 and a half hours on the bike again today. The legs felt pretty good after a while but the saddle is just too hard. That was the more uncomfortable part of today's ride. Now with my legs up on the bed here in my room watching curling on the TV. Dinner starts in an hour. Not feeling too hungry just yet. Also need to grab the map and plan tomorrow's day. Still 3 more days to ride. Yippee!Daily stats: 4h20m, 105km, 145 avg HR, temp 19C, 460 m climbing, 3300 calories spent, PE mediumCamp Sub-TTL 21h55m, 461km, 3020m, 14650cal
