Mallorca, Day 5 - Rest Day
Tuesday, 19 Marchok, repeat after me, I will rest today. I will leave the bike hanging in the cellar. I will hangout in cafes in the city and let the body regenerate. I WILL follow these orders.I am writing this now the evening before to remind me of the plans for the day. My body is so full of, 'bring it on!' stuff I am worried. We'll see.{break till morning}Good morning to tired legs and rain. What a good plan I had made to relax today. The wind is blowing and occasional sheets of rain passing through. Even my plan to head to the city for some sightseeing is being challenged. But the bike will stay hanging on the rack today. There is little risk of me pulling it down now. Breakfast became a 90 minute affair with me also writing this at the table. The coffee keeps coming here, although a bit thin it is. But I need to get moving at some point. I need to stretch out a bit and keep the fluids moving. It is sort of strange to be here on a cycling holiday from the family and not have a day of cycling. Will have to change that tomorrow.(pic from cathedral)
So, finally made it to the city of Palma for a few hours of looking around. I am in a holiday bunker area of Mallorca so taking the bus, while very cheap, does take some time. Two busses went by our stop as they were already "sold out", meaning they were full. The third took us who were still waiting straight to the city center. I really do not know much about Palma but that it is the capital, that is not hard and that it has 800k inhabitants.(pic of plaza)I thought they would all speak Catalan but they speak German. It is known as the 17th state of Germany. Oh well, no new language to experience here. The city is full of cafe's and little shops so it is fun to walk around here. The weather had me ducking into more places than I had planned but still worth a few hours out from the hotel.(pic of street)
There were some cool shops there as well, but I was there during siesta and many were closed. Will try to get back another time when they are open. But still much cycling to do first.(pic of bike sign)
Got back to the hotel just after 4pm and sat on the bed watching a cycling race in Spain. Just another boring day here on an island. Will grab a snack in a bit then a little TV and early to bed.
