1st Road Day of 2011

I was surprised. I never expected to be on the road bike on the 2nd of January. Especiallly in a year where we have had snow for over 3 weeks and hardly temps above freezing for the same time. But today it happened.I went with the gang to the bowling alley in the morning as it seemed a good thing to do and it was fun. On the way home, around 1:30pm the sun was out and it was so inviting that I just had to do it. Once home, I announced that I was headed out on the roads. This meant a quick search for all the needed gear, readying of the winter bike (fenders etc). All this before it became too late. Sun sets here around 4:45pm.After putting on 4 layers of shirts and the rest of the gear I was on the road. and this was nice. Temps were about plus 8°C so not freezing but not too happy either. But I really could not care. Skies were blue and the sun shining a bit, even low on the horizon was enough for me.It lasted only an hour. All was good except a few slick spots in the shade. Yes, this is really not the time of year to be on the road much. At least with sub-1 inch tires. But I felt so happy just "doing it!".Happy 2011 everyone.
