News from the Old Neighborhood
Well, I finally got some 1st hand scoop on what is/was going on in New Orleans after Katrina. I got an email from my friend Don Jr out of the blue. He googled me and found an address that looked like it had to be me and tried it. Well, 12 hours later we were on the phone and he was telling me stories which I thought I would never hear about my old neighborhood.I won't even try to put it all down here, that should come from the 1st hand not through me but nevertheless, it was rough. Stories he told of the bravery of the Algiers Police and how they kept as much order as was possible. How every shop or business had been burgled and not be those one saw on CNN; but his own neighbors! He left Sunday like many others but returned on Tuesday, guess he says it was 30 hours away or so. The area is fine like we have seen on TV. There was no flooding of Algiers but many trees were uprooted. His parents are fine too. Emily, his sister seems to have ended up at a Red Cross station after throwing a hurricane party 4 blocks from the coast in Bay St. Louis. Lost everything and was lost for 4 days. Who knows. So the news is "good" I guess. But there is still much to do and much to report. I will keep it coming when I hear more.
