November 2022
A warm hello to all the subscribers to my monthly newsletter. This is the one-stop-shop for keeping up with what I am writing about and general “what’s up” as well.
October has blown by so quickly but did have its memorable moments. I finally made it back to Zurich for a few days to visits friends and catch up on some of my Swiss activities while there. Once I returned I caught the virus which I had spent 2 years staying away from. Nothing too serious here and I was not alone in my house. Time passed and the illness as well.
My business planning is coming to a close and it is time to start the real work. At Digital.Done.Right. I am an Online Experience Designer. Here I audit businesses online efforts and provide insights and ideas what they could do to improve their customer’s experiences. What I am learning is that most of these businesses “know” that many of these things need attention but do not have either the skills or time. Or both!
That is the second piece of what I offer and that is training. I work closely with these businesses to develop a plan of what needs to be done, how it gets done and how to know what is working and what is not. During the audit review I share with them the importance the online experience is in their customers wider “brand experience”. I learned more about this Brand Experience in a very recent interview I made with a university professor. There will be more coming soon about this “brand” piece. I feel it is the missing link in my journey.
Hope you enjoy the newsletter!

Search in 2023
If you run a business, whether online or in-store, you must understand search. WOM or “word of mouth” has been a great way to gain new clients. However, today 90% of those under 40-year-olds will “search” a business after being told about it. Their interest is in the reviews. 93% state that online reviews are “as important” as personal recommendations.
Many small businesses struggle with the internet. Even if you sell a digital product or service you often find it hard to keep up with Google, social media, online reviews, and the rest. The services offered by Digital.Done.Right. are here to assist you in being successful on the web, attracting more satisfied customers, and perhaps your next employee.
I wrote more about the role of Search today and how it is growing and changing in the coming years.

Why You Need a Google Business Profile?
Google Business Profile is an online business directory where companies publish business information, announcements, and updates. Creating and managing a Business Profile is completely free, and is one of the most cost-effective ways to boost visibility in online search.
Keeping your Google Business Profile updated is important to your success. According to Ipsos Research, an up-to-date Google Business Profile:
-
Is 2.7x more likely to be considered more reputable.
-
Gets 7x more clicks.
-
Is 70% more likely to attract location visits.
-
Is 50% more likely to lead to a purchase.
I write more about what GBP means for your business but also show you how to set it up and manage your profile.
How to Manage Your Opening Hours?
To be clear here, I am talking about your business’ opening hours found on the internet. The results should all reflect your true business hours. If you are open only Monday and Tuesdays from 8 to 10 in the morning then that is what customers should find wherever they land on the internet.
The reality is often different. You might have your hours pasted in the window of your business or elsewhere and that is the right place. But where are your hours seen by potential customers online?
More insights on not just WHY managing your hours online is important but also HOW you can audit the internet for YOUR business.
PODCAST: NIGEL WILLIAMS - GOING SMALL
Nigel and I worked together for over 15 years. We had big corporate jobs which took us around the world a few times. A bit embarrassing looking back on it but, well, those were the times.
Today Nigel, like me, has downsized his organization focussing on local but also small businesses as well as startups. We talk about his web design and social management services he offers.
⚜️ What are some of the challenges these businesses have?
⚜️ Why a website is important for a small business?
⚜️ How does he market his business today?
Basically, I wanted to talk with another startup owner to learn a few things and that was my honest motivation for asking him on the podcast.
