On Tour - September 2012
It has been a while since I was on the road with many appointments all lined up keeping me really busy. I had the luxury of being in the office for long periods of time working on some new ideas for getting the message out and "virtually" working with clients around the region on the phone but also web conferences and a few video exchanges. Now September has come around and it has my speaking schedule full, which of course, is what I was working for all along.
This week was an event at one of our partners in Switzerland where together with a colleague we presented some of the innovations our company has but also spoke about how social media can and is being used by companies to about a dozen of their clients. Wednesday had me off to Oslo to speak at another partner event where I was one of 3 speaker talking to a group of 50 people. I was the only one from a supplier, while leading out was a CIO of a large oil platform company and after me a TV personality and astrophysicist. I feel I was the most entertaining of the three but that might be because I could not follow their norwegian too well.
I have one section of my talk where I have a picture with the phrase "what happens in Vegas…". While preparing for this Christine mentioned to me that I may need to explain this to others as she was not too sure how well it translated. So, when I got to that section I paused as the slide went up to read the crowds reaction. It didn't take long and I knew there was no translation needed. At least none for this crowd in Norway.
All fun and good responses as well so that makes all the work worth it. This coming week has me at a Deloitte Business School event as part of a panel discussion on Social Business. I've never been part of a panel so that will be something new. Then comes another tour through Switzerland then Serbia with the month ending in Durban, South Africa. That will have been my month as least how it looks today.
But now writing this post while sitting along side a river in eastern Germany watching the kayak competition in the sun has me thinking at least the balance is still in there. So, bring it on. Time to finally reap the benefits of those months spent preparing. Happy September!
