Arrival in Mallorca

Day 1, FridayAfter getting through all the different queues, from bus, to checking to collecting my rental bike then my welcome package, I was finally in my room with everything arranged. It was about 2 hours later than I expected but I was still on the bike before 1pm.The weather is just great here although pretty windy. That wind had me really working harder than I originally wanted today. I headed out along the coast here south then pulled inland when the road ended. The first 90 or so minutes were all against the wind. And much on the next 40 minutes as well. Plus, starting from the hotel here, which is at sea level obviously as I look out the window here., so everything else was uphill.
I only pulled out the map I was given twice as I really just wanted to ride. And when in doubt all roads head to Palma the capital. When all was done I had just over 3 hours and close to 75 km which is really what I had hoped to do today. Not bad for never being here before and not really knowing where to go. Now it is just after 6pm and the dinner buffet has iopened. Palma is a mixture of Fort Meyers, FL & Colorado Springs. There are so many bikers here, some on MTBs and many really fit roadies as well. Plus a great population of seniors here escaping the winter somewhere. The roads I saw today were really great and the drivers were very nice to have share the road.Sun is setting now. I am feeling tired too. The wind had me work harder than needed and I may take tomorrow a bit easier than planned. I want to go longer on Sunday with one of the guided groups. Need to keep my legs a bit fresh. The 9 days have just begun.Tomorrow my colleague, fellow biker Ernst arrives from Munich. We will meet up later in the afternoon after our rides but will try to find some riding time together as well.
