Project 33 Days - Day 29

Saturday, 18 June, SömmerdaToday was day one of the German Scholastic National Championships In Slalom Kayak. Races started at 8am and of course our luck had it that Tim was in the first group. So, breakfast at 7am then quickly off to the course to get ready and actually make sure Tim was up and warmed up for his first run. He was up dressed and had already completed his warmup exercises. He is getting better at all this routine. His run went well and with only one mistake really clean too. In these events, each participant gets two runs and the best time counts. Unfortunately, his second run was DQed as after he completed he was pulled out by the officials for testing. Not drug testing but equipment. His boat came in underweight, by 100 gram. About the same of a bar of Lindt chocolate.Luckily, the allowed his first run to stand and he ended up in 34th position from 68. Really great result to a great season. His training team were all proud of his progress and feel he is ready for the next season where he moves up a category. We watched a few more from his team compete but were so tired we headed back to the hotel by 3pm. Jony and Philip have their own room here and it looks like a college dorm room there. But they are chillin' I've been told. Off for dinner in an hour here in the hotel and probably an early night tonight too. Tomorrow is day two, team competition and the same start time.
