Timmi, Biathlon 2012

This is his 5th year competing in the annual end of year biathlon at his kayak club. Their tradition is to have this final event combining paddling and running together on the first weekend of October. Looking back over the years he has always had fun at this event although never really enjoying the running part. That was the reason he took to kayaking in the first place. Back then in 2008, when he started paddling in the summer he was really surprised to learn of this event and was almost turned off from the sport all together. Being afraid that there would be more of these events across the year. Luckily for him that was not the case and this October event remains the only exception.P1060543Now, after 4 full years of paddling and at the same time growing as a young man he has really changed and his approach has as well. But this event still catches him off guard and makes him nervous. Most of the participants are from his club, there are many others which do not compete in the white water events but tour along rivers around Europe. They are some very strong paddlers and that worried him. A few others come from other local clubs who just want to have fun this late in the season. This year was not any different except for the weather. Storms in the area had the river showing whitecaps and rain beginning to fall as well. The paddle course was really hard on all the participants with waves and wind taking them off course all the time. The required running loop was the raisin on top which put them to the real test. It was a great event and Tim took the bronze medal in his group with a really great time as well. First place was taken by the current German Champion in 2 Kilometer canoe so there was a bit of advantage here. Great day, great results but just a lot of fun was had by all.P1060545P1060548
