"Man bekommt keine Punkte für Fleisigkeit"
I heard this quote just before the Xmas break on German TV. There was an American commentator working along his German counterpart covering a hockey match. One of the players was being taking off the ice and I guess "benched" for the rest of the game. From the comment it seems he had been very active but had not had the effect he had wanted. I assume, he had not scored. So, the quote say you don't get a point for just trying hard. This was interesting as I had a conversation with a co-worker just a few days before where I had commented how hard the last quarter had been and the 100s of overtime hours I had booked. Although he did not say the same here, the feeling was the same: so what? What were all those extra hours for? Who were they for? Did I score an extra point through them? It got me thinking.Take this phrase into the workplace and it means to me, identify and focus on what really counts. Leave the sludge on the roadside.Watch the roadkill!
