Quality Time
This weekend I hit the road with Jonny and we crossed central Germany towards Erfurt & Weimar. Tim had a kayak competition there and we wanted to cheer him on. Tim was traveling with his squad and Jonny and I really did not want to sleep on the floor of the clubhouse out there so we chose a nice hotel in the city of Erfurt for the night.More fun was the time we got together. It is a 2.5 hour drive there and even though on the way out there he was busy watching a movie for much of the trip we had a lot of time together once there. This was the first time I had a good day and a half with one of my sons since, well, ever. The last 12 years has been pretty busy with lots of happenings and most of those included a combination of 1,2, or all 3 together traveling to occasions or just for a daily outing. Of course, they do like being together much of the time as well. It is just something they have always known; someone their age is always around. But anyway, Jonny and I had some cool time in the city, visiting the Cathedral and seeing some of the sites. Sure, we went to the two races as well to cheer them on but even there we spent much of the time sitting together, chatting about school, friends, hobbies and many other things. I really enjoyed it, he is a pleasure to be with and I think he did as well. On the way home he decided to keep the movie kit in the bag and sit up front to chat the way home. Guess that says something cool.Dad
