Mini Training Camp

Or else named; how to keep out of trouble when the family is gone for the weekend.Since last weekend’s race was canceled there was a gap in the training preparation for the upcoming races. So I worked together with my electronic coach to see if I could fit in some additional long sessions into this week’s training. Chris and the kids headed off to her father’s birthday Friday afternoon and I had 2 1/2 days of "open season" so I decided to fill it up with a total bike weekend.I had a warm-up on Friday with an easy 2.5 hour ride along the Rhein. This was the start of a 3 day weekend. It was an easy ride as I knew there were 2 more days ahead of me. Saturday was another longer ride planned of 3 hours which was easy as the weather was getting better all the while. Sunday was to be my first RTF ride.Sunday morning all was ready and I got up early, 6:30am. We had just changed the clocks the night before and this was like getting up at 5:30am!Got to the course and had the bike and myself ready to go to registration then I realized…..I had forgotten my helmet at home! There was no way out. This was to be a 107km ride which would be almost 5 hours and there was no way I would do this without a helmet. So I packed everything back in the car and headed home. It was going to take too long to try to get back again before the latest start time would have exceeded.Back at home I was quickly headed to get my helmet and get out on the road. The weather was looking good and the day was not to waste. I took the bike from them car and headed out. I followed the wind for 60K and took the ferry across at St Goarshausen to head back south. The wind had been nice to me for the first half as I was there in 2 hours. The 2nd half took me 2:40 and after almost 5 hours I was totally exhausted.A view of what I had to deal with along the way…30032008The weekend was over then with about 11 hours of riding and 320K for the week. It was an all time top for me. I was really happy when the gang came home Sunday night and Monday was a rest day too! Here is the end data and I am not unhappy not to ride till Tuesday!30032008(004)Take care and keep the rubber side down!
