Malays and Football

Like the Bostonians and their baseball, they are crazy about football. But two big differences; one, this refers to soccer and not the Redskins stuff and secondly, they are not crazed about their football but European football. An absolute craziness was brewing back in June before I left as the Euro2004 was beginning. That is the European Cup of Football. All the qualified European countries were playing  to see who was the best of Europe. Signs were hung everywhere in the city, clubs, bars, restaurants here rooting for different teams.Seems they are more interested in European ball, particularly in the English Premier League than in their own region game. The regional football association has complained to the European league that their game is ruining their chances here. Since the English games are shown on TV here during prime Saturday time, no one bothers to go to a Malaysian game.Guess it really isn't like Boston after all. Bostonians would never toot their hoot for another team except  their own. So what does that make the Malays? Traitors or just open minded?
